Switch electric appliance are the key control and protect elements of the smart grid, cantimely interrupt the circuit under the fault cases and play the role of protecting the safety ofthe system and customers. When the switch electric appliance with contacts switching off thecurrent in the circuit, inevitably generate the arc in the contacts gap. The emergence of thearc can provide a way to release the circuit energy, but on the other hand, if the arc cannot berapidly quenched, the arc plasma will corrode the contacts, destroy the break insulation,delay the dielectric recovery and cause the potential safety problems. Therefore, it isnecessary to research the arc dynamic characteristics and the internal mechanism, for quicklyextinguishing the arc, improving the operating reliability and the life span of the electricappliances.Based on the analyses of the relevant experiment method of the arc measurement, a newmethod is proposed to research the switching arc characteristics, i.e. the inverse method foranalyzing the arc plasma is introduced and combined with the numerical analyses of theelectromagnetic field. According to the variety of the couple physical field for the arc,combined with the arc current distribution, the arc model with multiple segments andvariable diameter is presented.And based on the inverse relationship between the electromagnetic fields and themagnetic field space reconstruction around the arc forward analysis is achieved using thegenetic algorithm. Moreover, by analyzing the magnetic field, the parameter of the arccurrent has been inversely computed.Finally, the penalty function is introduced into the optimization process to solve theill-posedness of the arc inverse and guarantee the stability and uniqueness of the solution.Aiming at the single segment arc, the arc with variable radius and moving arc under differentmoment, different magnetic field sampling topology array and optimization algorithm isprovided. Theoretically, a new method to study the switch arc is presented for achieving theadjustment and controlling the arc, and designing the higher parameters, operatingperformance and the reliability electrical appliances.
