Truss is a typical structure in steel structure. Each component could be made mainlyto resist axial forces by reasonable arrangement of the chords and braces in the steeltrusses. However, practically, it is always inevitable for the chords to serve as flexuralmembers, which is further proposed for bending behavior. Considering the square hollowsection steel is preferred in bearing axial force, while H section steel as flexural membersis more economical, T joints assembled with square hollow section brace and H sectionchord is applied.Based on specifications and software of ansys, the research on the joints has beendone as the followings:(1)To make sure the reliability of FEA, the choice of element type, flaw method andamplitude of geometrical flaw are used to simulate it based on the experimental data fromthe related references. It proves that the improved consistent imperfect buckling analysismethod could also be used in it and perfect simulation could be achieved.(2) The design of the joint in a project has been done based on the Eurocode3. Thebuckling analysis under the boundary condition of different forces also has beenconducted in the study, which provides related advices for design. The effects for thebehavior of the joint, which resulted by thickness of flange and web in chord, have beenanalysed. It proves that the bearing capability in joint is generally larger than that incomponent. The web influences more about the bearing capability of the joint than theflange in the chord. The buckling deformation of single joint shows simple.(3)A multi-scale model of a truss contains the joints has been created in the study.The comparison with single joint has also been done. It proves that joints in the truss showmore various buckling deformation. The multi-scale model analysis could help tosupplement the single joint analysis to guarantee the safety of the designation. In the sametime, the multi-scale model analysis could also help to reinforce or weaken the joints ofdifferent position based on the force condition to make the application of the joints moreeconomical.
