The mesoscale convective system (MCS) has an important influence on flightaviation activities, if the plane fly into heavy weather uncarefully, the fuselage, wing ofthe aircraft will suffer severe icing and turbulence,which will make serious damage tothe body structure to endanger the life of passengers and crew. This paper referenceimproved MCS identification and tracking criteria,made by Fei Zengping and WangHongqing et al in2011,using FY-2D stationary satellite infrared data,provided by thecivil satellite meteorological center,to identify, track, calculate and analyze the movingposition and speed of MCS generated in Flight Information Region (FIR)of Chinesemainland.Through the processing of gray image binarization to get rid of the highertemperature clouds. Through the extraction of eigenvalue and eigenvector and theselection of appropriate clouds area and ellipticity of MCS to complete theidentification.According to the MCS tracking target matching criterion of adjacent timesatellite cloud pictures calculated the moving centroid,intensity and the changing areasof MCS to achive continuous tracking.Merge together the borders provided by the civil geographic information systemand FIR boundary information of AIP with Nominal file of FY-2D fulfill the transitionof latitude and longitude information with geographic coordinates to realize the satellitecloud image being overlaid with geographic coordinate.Finally, based on the digital datafrom2007to2010,the paper analyzes average area, the longest diameter,TBB andellipticity of the whole stages of MCS(include primary, mature, dissipating) and someother attributive character to statistic analysis life circle of MCS and spatial andtemporal distribution of MCS in FIR of Chinese mainland,including monthly averagedistribution and daily variation characteristics.Automatic identification and tracking of MCS algorithm in this paper providedpractical technology to recognition, judgement, tracking and prediction of the evolutionof MCS. While the space-time distribution statistics of MCS in whole FIR could helpus clearly know the its average distribution and daily variation characteristics andprovide effective reference data to relevant civil aviation department to optimize routepath and sector, establish avoiding area and so on which has a realistic significance.
