Antient College Culture And Architectural Environment Design Of Modern University Library

Since our country’s Opening up and Reform, a series of higher education systemreform and structural adjustment had begun from the late1990s, along with which alarge number of colleges and universities started to merge and enlarge schoolenrollment, while the others rebuilding or new construction. Under such environment,old and new campus libraries’ remodeling began to flourish. How to design thearchitecture environment of university library has become a significantly practicalresearch thesis.This paper tried to make its own contribution to the solving of problems exsitedin the university library architectures and environment design. By describing thedifferent periods of university library architectures design since the Opening up andReform, it summarized the characteristics respectively. Based on a comparisonbetween the outside university library architectures design and the inside one, thispaper pointed out some typical problems in the contemporary university libraryarchitectures design in China, for example, lack of human culture spirit atmosphere,lack of communication between architects and librarians in the design process, neglectof the concept of sustainable development and so on. Facing these drawbacks, it ishelpful to reviewing the history to get some reflections. Therefore, this paper alsoresearched the aspects of the ancient college history, cultural characteristics,architectural features, humanistic culture characteristics, analyzed the essences ofancient education architecture culture, as well as the affect on the modern universitylibrary architectures design and its application, and proposed the returning of ancientcollege architecture spirit to the modern university library architecture environmentaldesign, in order to give some enlightenments for the characteristic designs ofuniversity library architecture in China.
