With the improvement of people’s living standard, more and more household appliances occurred into family. In order to improve its performance, equipping with three-phase motor, other than single-phase motor, has been the trend of household appliances’continuous development. In recent years, high-speed railway developed rapidly in our country. The power supply of household appliances and high-speed railway is single-phase AC power, where needs the single-to-three-phase power electronic conversion technology. To further improve people’s living standard, promote national infrastructure construction, and realize social sustainable development, studying single-phase to three-phase power electronic conversion technology is very important.This paper introduces the application background, research significance of single-to-three phase power conversion and the research situation of modulation strategy firstly, and then the conventional AC-DC-AC single-to-three phase power electronic converter topology is analyzed. Aiming at the disadvantages of conventional converter, some representative modulation strategies of single-to-three phase power electronic converter are analyzed. Then further research aspects read as follows:Presents a new modulation strategy based on SPWM(Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation), which is suitable for some situations not sensitive with input voltage utilization, but requires wide output frequency range, and it is used in direct matrix converter; Presents a indirect modulation strategy based on SVPWM(Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation), which is suitable for some situations not sensitive with output frequency range, but requires good output characteristics. With the indirect modulation strategy, output currents’ THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) is reduced, input power factor is increased, what’s more, a small capacitor can be used in the DC link. At last, the MATLAB/SIMULINK simulations are established, and the simulation results certified the modulation strategies.Based on the theoretical analysis and the simulation verification, experiment platforms are designed, the experiment results demonstrate the validity of the proposed modulation strategies.
