Spherical plain bearing is a special structure sliding bearing, because of its simplestructure, large carrying capacity and other special properties, they are widely used inconstruction and agricultural machinery, heavy trucks and other fields. Especially inrecent years, as China’s rail transportation, aerospace and military industry rapiddevelopment, high reliability, good performance spherical bearings are very urgentneeded. How to improve the spherical bearing friction and wear performance andreliability, extending its life are subjecting to focus on.In this paper, by the finite element method, the contact properties such as stress andstrain of non-oil groove, crossed oil groove and single ring groove spherical plainbearings (type GE45ES) were analyzed. Through comparative analysis different oilgrooves influence on the contact properties of spherical bearing. Though change thespherical contact plain to ellipsoid contact plain, studied the reserved amount ofdeformation impact on the contact properties. In order to study the oscillationfrequency, load influence on friction characteristics of spherical plain bearing,application of PWNS-200rotary swing spherical bearing tester on spherical bearingfriction and wear test, analyzes the oscillation frequency and load impact on thespherical bearing friction coefficient and working surface temperature. Finally, byusing ANSYS/LS-DYNA, dynamic simulation of spherical bearing was realized. Thegrease layer is joined in the finite element model of spherical bearing and thecorresponding keywords are implemented to achieve a fluid-structure interactionbetween the bearing and the grease. The bearing inner and outer ring maximum stressvariation with time under the grease lubrication experimental conditions are studied.The results show that:(1) it can be concluded from the research that oil groove has an obvious influenceon the bearing stress and distribution of the contact pressure through the comparisonof the influence of different shaped oil grooves on the contact characteristics of radialspherical plain bearing,which should be taken into adequate consideration whendesigning bearing. (2) Proper reserved deformation can effective reduce the maximum stress andcontact pressure between inner and outer ring of spherical bearing, which can improvethe contact characteristics of spherical bearing.(3) By friction and wear testing, found the oscillation frequency and load size havea little influence on friction coefficient of bearing; on the contrary, they both have aobviously influence on temperature of bearing surface.(4) With the increase of dynamic load, the volatility of maximum stress of innerand outer ring become bigger, and the size of the maximum stress is proportional tothe size of the dynamic load.
