Transport of river ice is the important components of river ice engineering research. In the winter, channel conveyance must solve the influence brought by the ice.Transporting and discharging ice operation is the main way of operation for diversiontype hydropower station of cold regions in winter. Especially in Xinjiang, Some smalland medium-sized hydropower stations often use the curve ice discharge method. First,in view of the characteristics of floating ice, establish a three-dimensional S-shapedcurve sink, based on the three-dimensional two-phase flow numerical model ofFLUENT-EDEM coupling, and the motion characteristics of ice particles in canalscurve is analyzed under the conditions of different velocity, different ice flow anddifferent ice particles size. Then create a three-dimensional model of the curve waterintake, and analyze the changes of flow in curve after setting the intake and themovement characteristics of floating ice in curve water intakes, and discuss the effect oftransporting ice when the angle between the water intake axis and the diversion channelaxis is different. The simulation results show that, the ice particles’ movement is stability in thestraight section of the sink, after flow into two90°curves, there existed transversevelocity component, under the action of the drag force of flow, the ice particles will driftto the concave side tank wall of the two corners, and with the flow rate increases, thegreater the magnitude of bias concave bank side. There is retention time when the iceparticles moving in the water tank. Retention time effect the range of ice’s aggregationand stagnation. Residence time has a relationship with flow velocity, amount of floatingice, friction between ice particles and sink wall, and other factors. Transporting anddischarging ice has its specific operating conditions, flow velocity and amount offloating ice are the important factors to the transporting and discharging ice. The effectsof water diversion of the curve of water intake changes the position of the mainstreamline of the curve, so that changes the flow morphology and structure of the entire curve, when the angle between the axis of the intake and diversion channel axis are10°and15°, three-quarters ice particles can be discharged, it is a better effect.
