Surge protection circuit plays a quite significant role in industrial production.Surge protection device, as an indispensable part of surge protection circuit, canabsorb surge power and leads it to ground. However, surge protection device maylose efficacy accidentally which leads to irreversible device injure. So it is necessaryto design a kind of surge protection device tester to test the voltage clampingcapacity of the surge protection device. So it has become a current research hotspotto design a kind of surge protection device testers.This paper introduces the practical value of this project and recent domestic andforeign development. The paper subsequently describes the parameter configurationand overall architecture of this surge protection device tester. Then, this paperanalyses detailedly and separately submodules which makes up surge protectiondevice tester designing the layout of every submodule such as the central controlcircuit, the high-speed voltage-enhancing circuit, the analog voltage collection andmeasurement circuit, the analog-to-digital converter circuit, the system power supplycircuit and the relay switching circuit. Additionally, performance parameter of thesecircuit are also confirmed. Finally, the paper points out the focus on industrial surgeprotection device tester.This paper designs the system and modules planned previously drawing printedcircuit board picture. Measurement results are as follows: the limit voltage can raiseto10kV, the stable voltage-enhancing speed in the circuit can raise to900V/s, thevoltage sampling time cell can reduce to0.5μs, data feedback system can be‘oscilloscope feedback’ or ‘digital data feedback via a liquid crystal display screen’.When voltage-enhancing speed exceeds500V/s, limit voltage collected willdecrease and when voltage sampling time cell exceeds1μs, limit voltage collectedwill increase compared with the true value. So it is necessary to ensure that voltage-enhancing speed is less than500V/s and voltage sampling time cell is less than1μsto make the surge protection device tester work accurately. The test result shows that the surge protection device tester designed has satisfactory reliability and minordeviation.
