Double sided multi-tooth flux switching permanent magnet linear machine (MTFSPMLM) has the merits such as high trust density, simple secondary, and cost-effective for long distance movement. There are still many characteristics to be analyzed, and no business use cases have been reported because of its short study history. According to its structure characteristics, it can be used in linear transportation, electromagnetic launch, CNC machine tools and so on.Firstly, the structure, operation principle and mathematical model are introduced and a finite element analysis model is built to analyze its no-load and load performance of thrust, normal force and back electromotive force.Secondly, a double sided structure MTFSPMLM is presented aiming at reducing the thrust ripple. Contract with moving secondary and primary double sided structure, a newly double sided without auxiliary teeth structure is carried out after the study of flux. Under the same structure size and current density, the performance of this structure is improved effectively. The average force increases by128.5%and the trust ripple decreases from18.54%to2.38%.Thirdly, temperature field modeling theory and basis calculation method of linear motor, such as motor loss, heat transfer, equivalent calculation method of material thermal performance parameters and experienced formula of the surface heat transfer coefficient have been introduced.Finally, the electromagnetic and thermal coupling finite element simulation of double sided MTFSPMLM is studied. The main factors that influence the accuracy of the temperature field simulation are analyzed one by one. As the windings and permanent magnets both exist in primary, the temperature rise will weaken the performance of permanent magnets and decrease electromagnetic force.
