With the development of economy and the improvement of people’s living standard,the number of private cars is increasing,and traffic is also becoming biger and biger,these make the original road can not meet the practical needs of transport volume growth and social development.It is an urgent need to rebuild and upgrade of existing roads. The changes and upgrade of the road are including new construction and reconstruction,but the road of new construction need much more land and investment,which is not conducive to the development trend of our country;however,the old road reconstruction project can not only ease the tension degree of landuse, but also to save resources and protect the environment, so it will be the trend of development and the need of road.The old road rebuilding project is very common for coastal areas in china.However, the road of the coastal areas are construction on soft soil foundation, in view of engineering properties of soft soil, the old road widening project becomes very complex.Subgrade differential settlement control after the road widened is an important problem to be solved in engineering, it mainly has the following several aspects:(1)the old road subgrade settlement has been formed, road widening will cause the old roadbed additional settlement;(2) the treatment of soft foundation under the new road will cause the difference settlement between the old and new embankment;(3) the binding site between the new and the old road subgrade and pavement can maintain the stability of the whole.In this paper, according to the road widening engineering in the differential settlement controlproblems were analyzed and studied. First of all, through the study on the engineering geological conditions of that region,comparative analysis of the changes of soil engineeringproperties of foundation of new and old roadbed, and provide basis for treatment of the calculation and analysis of soft soil foundation; secondly,the mechanism of the new and old subgrade differential settlement are analyzed, and use the finite element software to studythe effect of different factors variation of the road widening engineering;finally, combined with the engineering, studying the the control technology of subgrade differential settlement from the soft soil foundation treatment of roadbed and road surface, to provide the urban road soft soil foundation treatment method and treatment measures, and provide valuable reference and basis for engineering similar projects later.
