As the power transformer is the core of energy conversion and transmission in the grid, it is very important to ensure its safe and reliable operation, the on-line monitoring to the transformer internal insulation status is necessary. The main internal structure of transformer is oil paper insulation, its failure is mainly caused by partial discharge. By detecting the outward radiation electromagnetic wave when partial discharge occurs, ultra-high-frequency (UHF) sensor can judge the internal insulation condition of transformer. With the advantages of high measurable frequency, wide frequency width, large amount of information, strong anti-interference, UHF electromagnetic detection has always been the hot spot of the research on partial discharge on-line monitoring. The experiment platform which can simulate the operation condition of transformer is presented in this paper, a variety of real, controllable partial discharge models are developed and verified by laboratory simulation platform system test, and the characteristics of all kinds of model corresponding to the discharge are presented. Through the cooperation of models and transformer true type platform, can provide theoretical support and platform support for UHF sensor operation, testing etc.In this paper, several commonly used built-in uhf sensors are studied, including dipole oscillator antenna, micro strip antenna and the disc, with disk antenna as a benchmark, a comparison is made in the transformer true type platform to verify its performance, application scope of several antennas are obtained. And two non-traditional UHF sensors are put forward, which are electromagnetic combination double antenna and conformal antenna, after the theoretical study of the two antennas, the experiment was carried out to explore the theory support to promote the widely application of the two antenna. Finally, UHF electromagnetic wave propagation attenuation rule in the transformer is qualitatively analyzed, and through partial discharge model and the UHF sensor placed in the transformer true type platform, its correctness is verified, and satisfactory results were obtained.
