In our country, the reinforced concrete structure is one of the most important structure. Beam is the main force component, but many concrete beams are not reach strength grade. The shear failure of concrete beam is brittle, the consequence is very serious if it happens. Therefore, the shear of the concrete beam reinforcement has become a concerned issue by structural engineers.Because of the high strength, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance, light weight and easy construction, Fiber Reinforced Plastics have received widespread attention in the area of reinforcement. In recent years, as a kind of natural degradation of new environment-friendly inorganic fiber materials, Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics has proceeded industrialized production. Compared with the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics, which is most widely used, the Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics has similar tensile strength, better corrosion resistance, better fire resistance, and the price is only 1/8-1/5 for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics. So the Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics has great competitive advantage, it provides a new space for the reinforcement.Currently, many countries only provide the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics’ specification, and our reinforcing specification only for Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics and Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic. In order to provide a reference for the reinforcement area, we studied the shear behavior of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Plastics reinforced concrete beam.A study of strengthening shear capacity using basalt fiber sheets for the reinforced concrete beam is proposed in this paper. Orthogonal test method is used and L9 (34) orthogonal table is chosen. Nine specimens are designed and fabricated by considering four influencing factors, which are stirrup ratio, striation width, striation spacing and fiber sheet type. The results show that the shear capacity, on average, increases 34% by applying basalt fiber sheets on the beam, and the shear capacity is 73% of that obtained by using CFRP. The shear capacity of the beam can be more improved as the fiber sheet striation is wider and the striation spacing is smaller.
