With the development of railway technology in our country, diesel locomotive(DL) has entered the era of AC drive. Traction converter system is an important part of AC-driving diesel locomotive(DL), the performance of this system directly affects the reliability and stability of DL. Therefore, developing a high-performance traction converters system is the key to improve the overall performance of AC locomotive.This paper is based on the AC locomotive traction converters system which is exported to some foreign countries, and the research is focusing on the design of main circuit, parameters of components and traction motor control strategy of traction converters. Through this study, a solid theoretical basis for future locomotive traction converter system design has been established.Firstly, the system design strategy for this paper is decided by studying the main circuit design of AC locomotive traction converter system, which includes the dissertation of rectifier design, ground fault detection and power configuration. Then, the main parameters of traction converter system have been analyzed and calculated. After that, the paper discusses the basic vector control strategy for asynchronous motor and the voltage space vector modulation. The MATLAB simulation based on the SVPWM indirect vector control is displayed, and the TMS320F28335 DSP is selected to conduct the software design of control algorithm. Finally, this paper introduces the dSPACE semi-physical simulation platform, establishing the HIL simulation model in traction converter system, forming up HIL simulation for the system control algorithm, and conducting relevant ground experiments which is according to the existing equipment technical conditions, to verify the feasibility and rationality of the design strategy.
