As the trend of containerization has deepened continuously and the scale of container ships become larger and larger, cargo throughput of container port has had a rapid growth. Due to this growth, container port internal traffic is faced to a lot of pressure in transporting containers. In order to deal with more and more transportation tasks within the port, some ports decide to add container trucks in use, which has increased the number of vehicles driving on the road. And this consequence is far away from the original intention-improving the transport efficiency. What we can know from this is that under the current situations of port layout and road conditions, when solving this problem, we should change old ideas, such as increasing transportation vehicles and optimizing travel route, the more effective measure to improve the efficiency of transport is apply modern and suitable transportation organization mode in container port. This article is in order to achieve this purpose, and try to apply "truck-trailer"- a kind of transportation organization mode which has exposed obvious advantages in road-to solve the internal traffic problem of a container port.Firstly, the theory of the overall operation system about the truck-trailer transportation are introduced. The article provides a brief introduction to the basic concepts and the present developments of the truck-trailer transportation, and elaborates the characteristics of different transportation modes in both operation and the applied environment. Secondly, through the analysis of the ground vehicle operation system of container port, the paper combines the vehicle scheduling problem model with the characteristics of container port internal transport systems, and makes the existing model have a progress.Thirdly, the paper sets up the vehicle scheduling model for truck-trailer transport which is suitable for a container port, and then design the corresponding algorithm. Finally, the newly-built transport model is proven through a designed experimental example. The paper applies the traditional vehicle scheduling model and the truck-trailer transport vehicle scheduling to solve the example respectively and compares analyze the results. The outcomes prove that the truck-trailer vehicle scheduling model has a huge advantage in saving vehicle transport distance, reduce the number of vehicle in use, avoiding waiting time produced by loading and unloading and other elements affecting the efficiency of container port internal transport network.
