With the expansion of power grid and the development of the society, several blackout accidents in recent years have realized us from the reverse side that, along with the high degree real-time, co-existence of interconnectedness and complexity of the modern power system,is its high degree of vulnerability and the harm of power accidents, which makes the demand for power system reliability, security reaches an unprecedented height. Power industry of our country is in rapid development period, the put into operation of large capacity, ultra-high voltage, ac/dc hybrid, and long distance transmission projects have significantly increased the complexity of power system, so it is particularly important to assess the power system reliability, to formulateemergency measures aiming at the weak link existing in the power system, and to improve thepower system reliability. However, at present the power grid emergency plan, improvement measures are mainly formulated by experience in our country with big workload and low efficiency. Therefore it is important toidentifythe weak link of power system effectively, found the "bottleneck" node that influence the reliability of the system, which has important application value for the operation and maintenance personnel. This paper summarizes the method of electric power system reliability assessment and the method of identify weak link in power systemon the basis of related research status. The main content of this thesis is as follows:(1) Based on the widely read of papers about power system reliability assessment and weakness identification, this paper systematically summarize the commonly used system reliability evaluation index, the reliability evaluation process, the main factors that influence the reliability of power supply, and the power system weakness analysis model.(2) Based on the analysis of the main factors that influence the reliability of power supply system, this paper puts forward the effective improvement measures to improve reliability of power supply from the perspectives of optimization of power grid planning and operation.(3) Combine with the practical running situation of Taiyuan power grid, this paper evaluate reliability condition and analysis weakness of Taiyuan power grid using the method described before, and puts forward some effective measures to improve Taiyuan power grid reliability.
