It’s great significance to use the plain reservoir to solve the shortage of water resources and the uneven distribution of water resources in some regions, etc. Research shows that:the plain reservoir leakage problem is one of the main problems which caused by the reservoir after water impoundment. It has a great effect on the security and stability of the reservoir, industrial and agricultural production in the reservoir area, ecological environment and building facilities. Most of plain reservoir area’s geological conditions are complex. The causes of leakage and its research method have its unique, need to be systemic research that can provide theoretical basis and technical support for the plain reservoir leakage cause analysis and leakage prevention.Based on leakage of plain reservoir as the research object, taken the method of combining the theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, revealed the plain reservoir leakage causes and seepage evolution process, put forward seepage prevention measure, provided theoretical support and technical support for the specific projects. The main research analysis in the following ways:(1) Outlined the characteristics of the plain reservoir, summaried the classification of leakage, conditions and the factors of influence. As donghu reservoir for example, combined with specific projects, measured data, put forward the main factors affecting reservoir leakage, explored the leakage mechanism of dam foundation and dam body, raised the plain reservoir seepage control measures and reply methods.(2)To the donghu reservior as an example, built east, south, west and north four dam section two-dimensional seepage mathematical model respectively.(3) Apply seepage calculation software Unsst2 to numerical simulation of seepage field, seepage flow field numerical simulation combined with measured data, deducted leakage change process and the regularity of penetration on the plain reservoir. Seepage is an important parameter to measure. In the same mathematical model, increaser the waterhead, the greater the amount of seepage, adverse to the operation of reservoir.(4) Used inversion analysis and sensitivity analysis method, based on groundwater dynamics simulation in the reservoir area, changed a parameter in the seepage field, analyzed its sensitivity. The result indicates that seepage change process in waterhead and the regional permeability are main factors influencing of seepage and seepage slope including cut-off, soil permeability, soil thickness, waterhead and the reservoir well connected effect is the main influence factors of seepage and seepage slope.
