Local irregular topography has a great impact on earthquake ground motion. Topographic effect has been a hot focus in earthquake engineering. About effects of all kinds of topography on the surface ground motion have been a lot. Analytical method is not suitable for scarp topography for its characteristic. The studies of scarp topography are mainly under the vertical incident wave. About the study of scarp topography under the oblique incident wave was little. For scarp topography, using the method of the combination of finite element method and the artificial transmitting boundary, we discussed the influence excent and scope of the scarp terrain on scarp’s upside and downside ground motion under the P waves of oblique incidence with the help of software ANSYS. The main results as follows:(1) The amplification factor of seismic peak of scarp’s upside region is larger than that of the free surface, while the amplification factor of scarp’s downside part is less than that of the free surface.(2)As the change of slope angle, the influence of scarp’s upside and downside part is almost unchanged.Assuming that the scarp’s left side lower than its right side, when the incident wave from the left side, the influence scope of scarp’s upside is larger than the incident wave from the right side. But about the influence scope of scarp’s downside is just the opposite.(3)When the P waves of oblique incidence from the left side, the influence scop of scarp’s upside increases as the incident Angle increases. When the P waves of oblique incidence from the right side, the influence scop of scarp’s downside increases as the incident Angle increases.(4)The existence of soil layer, the ground motion peak of the surface has obvious amplification effect. But the amplification intensity of ground motion peak is different for the different part’s measuring point. At last, the research contents are summed up and the problems need to be further studied are put forward. With the increase of soil layer, each measuring point’s amplification coefficient increases gradually.
