With the world’s energy shortage and environmental pollution is worsening, more and more people pay attention to the use of renewable energy and clean energy. Photovoltaic power generation is directly and most effective to use the renewable solar energy, so the research of improving the solar photovoltaic conversion efficiency and utilization rate has very important theoretical significance and practical value.The photovoltaic power generation is currently facing a major bottleneck is the low conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cells and a smaller amount of radiation received per unit area. In order to increase the utilization of solar energy and conversion efficiency, this paper will propose to detect light intensity as the day tracking and tracing the trajectory tracking method combining. In order to improve the utilization of solar energy photovoltaic power generation rate, this paper will make related research on the maximum power point tracking(MPPT) technique.Firstly, this paper has introduced the status, principles, algorithms and prospects of the photovoltaic systems and photovoltaic tracking systems in detail. According to the development of photovoltaic tracking and research process, this paper has put forward a kind of using STC12C5A60S2 as controller, adopted the tracking mode of the detection track and sun tracking combined. This tracking mode has achieved the tracking of sunlight tracking two degrees of freedom in the vertical and horizontal direction, thereby increased the utilization of solar energy effectively. The system can automatically switch to track mode based on the weather conditions, using the light intensity detection tracking mode when it’s sunny day, and using the trajectory tracking mode when it’s cloudy days, the system does not track at night to reduce the energy consumption of the system.Secondly, this paper has introduced the status, principles, algorithms and prospects of the maximum power point tracking in detail, and has analyzed and compared the common algorithms of maximum power point tracking, and to improve on its basis, and has been modeled and simulated in the Matlab/Simulink environment.This paper uses a modular software design idea about the system is divided into several sub-modules: the main PV tracking program, tracking light intensity detection routines, the trajectory tracking routines, motor drive subroutine and clock subroutines.In this paper has elaborated the design of the hardware circuit in detail, and at last has tested on the system’s various modules and the entire system. The results show that to achieve the automatic tracking position of the sun.
