With the advancement of technology and the development of computer network technology, the technology of "Internet of things" is also booming, people for the requirement of smart homes tend to be more intelligent and networked. As an important place in people’s daily lives, home environment has vital security problems. Currently, the smart home monitoring system has many forms on the market, but the system is very large, the standard is not unified and the scalability is not strong. In view of the intelligent household security problems, based on the embedded hardware, transplanted the Android operating system, a kind of intelligent monitoring system of household environment has been designed on the idea of modularization in this paper.From the perspective of home environmental security, a kind of smart home environmental monitoring system has been designed with the use of Android.The network technology, throughout the system, was discussed as a starting point. Combined with the design requirements, the whole system is divided into three parts:data collection network, video surveillance network and the host controller management network. During the system design process, technologies and applications of each network module will also be introduced and analyzed.In the data collection network, based on ZigBee teachnology, a kind of wireless data acquisition system has been designed for collecting information of the home environment. The design of relevant hardware circuit has been given and the software program of nodes has also been developed based on Z-stack protocol stack. The data collection and transmission workflow has been described in details. In the video surveillance network, USB camera has been used for capturing image information, combined with H.264 algorithm for code compression, with the using of Real-time Transport Protocol and Real-time Transport Control Protocol for video transmission. In the host controller management network, Android operating system has been ported to manage applications, based on the S3C6410 chip, the embedded server has also been introduced, combing with CGI technical to design the system software.Through testing and analysis of the signal strength of ZigBee network, data acquisition and video display, the system designed can be indicated to be suitable for the application of smart home environmental monitoring system. Users can remotely access the embedded server, access to environmental information in real-time and use the camera for the auxiliary view.
