The lightning disaster has a negative influence on the safe operation of power system. It’s important to learn the impact of lightning on the running of transmission lines and take the appropriate measures to avoid the problems. Thus it is necessary to establish the lighting risk assessment system to give scientific risk assessment of the grid.In this paper, we successfully establish the lightning risk assessment models, and the overall design and the realizing of the system.In the lightning risk assessment model, the lighting density is counted by the month statistics by the use of MATLAB program, and then use the parameters estimated average overrun function method and probability weighted moments get GPD model to establish lightning density GPD model, implemented based GPD lightning trip rate computing model to calculate the improved design. This paper establish by selecting the six risk factors according to a certain weight calculation to establish a risk assessment model, complete solving risk index under lightning and the corresponding risk level risk assessment functions to achieve.In the needs of the lightning risk models and the business needs, on the basis of geographic information systems(GIS) and meteorological information system database, this paper design and implementation of the regional lightning risk assessment system based on GIS to achieve a data import etc., analysis, management and evaluation of the basic functions, complete the risk assessment report was generated automatically. And the system has been tested and the actual operation of the system integrity and reliability.In short, the paper realize the design of risk assessment system, which can realize the assess of lightning risk and the report generation, thus providing lightning risk assessment calculations and data analysis support.
