Automotive auxiliary safe driving technology is getting to attract attention from all over the world in recent years. Being a means of automotive visual auxiliary technology, Head-Up Display(HUD) aims to enhance driving safety though eliminating blind spot and shortening the time of visual disturbance. With the HUD, driver can view a virtual image of driving information overlaid on the direct view of traffic. Focusing on automotive HUD, the work of this thesis includes three parts:Firstly, optical design of DLP(Digital Light Processing) pico-projector module is elaborated, which acts as the image source of HUD. DLP pico-projector employs telecentric optics design of RTIR structure, with a fly-eye lens uniforming light and adjusting spot size in illumination light path. Imaging effect shows this projection design has satisfied the application requirement of image source of HUD with good uniformity, high contrast and excellent resolution.Secondly, optical design of automotive HUD is implemented, in which distinct view positions within EYEBOX are simulated in use of multi-configurations function of ZEMAX. Then, imaging quality features are analyzed based on design requirements as well as aberration and performance figures. Analysis shows the optical system has met the ergonomic engineering requirement, and users can gain a comfortable visual effect.Thirdly, an after-market HUD system structure based on anamorphic projection lens is proposed, aiming to decrease the thickness of HUD device. Based on this proposal, cylindrical anamorphic lens for HUD application is designed for the purpose of depressing projection image in vertical direction relative to horizontal direction. System analysis results indicate design has corrected aberration reasonably and achieved satisfactory performance.
