Electronic technology has been developed rapidly in recent years, especially in the field of communication and aviation. The accuracy of frequency measurement ensures the reliability of communication directly. It has an increasing demand on frequency measurement technology. To find a new way to measure the frequency of demoded signal quicker and with higher precision has always been the focus of what researchers study.Firstly, this thesis will introduce three common methods used to measure frequency, which are direct counting, analog interpolation and frequency measurement with synchronization method, analyses the principle of these methods and the source of error. And then it will propose a frequency measurement method based on regression analysis. Finally, this thesis will introduce some details of the principle of this method, and also give the design scheme according to the principle.This thesis introduces the overall design of frequency measurement method based on regression analysis in detail, which includes design and realization of hardware circuit and logic function. The circuit is based on FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array), and also includes peripheral integrated circuit. Logic design is the core of the project, which mainly includes generation of the gate, time-stamping, data processing and communication with control machine. After designing the hardware circuit and ensuring it work well, we should build a test bench for this system to verify the feasibility of this method, witch combined with specific PC software. At last, this design is proved useful and can meet the requirements of the design based on the results obtained in the validation.This method can achieve a high precision of frequency measurement with a simple hardware circuit structure, and it is easy to implement with a low cost. When the gate is set within 500 ns, the error of frequency measurement is less than 200 kHz.
