A new portable electrochemical analysis system was designed and implemented. At first, a new method for fabricating a paper-based microfluidic device for electrochemical analysis was finished. A filter was clamped by two poly(dimethylsiloxane) patterns, of which surrounding was bounded by double faced adhesive tape, and dipped into melted wax for about two seconds. A paper based microfluidic channel was then finished after peeling off the PDMS patterns. The paper based microfluidic channel was folded, and then three gold electrodes were integrated by wax. The electrochemical performance of the device was verified by redox reaction of 2mmol/L ferrocenecarboxylic acid solution. In the meantime, the device was successfully applied to detect the concentration of the glucose in solution. Experimental results show that the detection limit of glucose is 0.2 mmo L/L, response time is 20 s; related coefficient is 0.996 at 0.5V working potential. The sensitivity of the device for determination of glucose is 0.57 μ A/(mm2 mmo L/L) with good repetitiveness. The work is helpful for microfluidic biochemical analysis due to its low cost and simple technology.A portable paper-based electrochemical analyzer was designed and implemented using low power CPU of MSP430 and the production of double paper-based electrochemical microfluidic device. The circuit system which was comprised of a detecting circuit, a power circuit, a keystoke circuit, a display circuit and a serial port communication circuit was controled and scheduled by the single-chip microcomputer. As an important part of portable paper-based electrochemical analyzer, the designed potentiostat plays an important role in electrochemical detection system. The experiments for detecting different concentrations of glucose solution have been done. The results show that the glucose concentration and the response current show a good linear relationship within the range of 0.2mmo L/L and 22.2 mmo L/L, the produced electrochemical analyzer had good stability and reproducibility. The average of relative standard deviation is 3.2%. The electrochemical analyzer can be used to measure the concentration of analyte in solution.The cost to fabricate paper-based electrochemical microfluidic devices using presented wax printing method and the molten paraffin encapsulated integrated three electrodes method is low, and its operation is simple; Production of paper-based electrochemical microfluidic devices can be used to determine the concentration of the analyte solution; The portable paper-based electrochemical analyzer can meet the requirements of measuring the concentration of general solution. The work provides a fast and low cost method to develop the paper-based electrochemical microfluidic device, and the portable paper-based electrochemical analyzer is helpful to measure the concentration of analyte in the solution in environmental hygiene and health care area for the paper-based microfluidic device.
