Along with the continuous development and reform of high education since 21 th century, The Chinese Government had launched in the construction of university towns and new campus in the climax. Shanghai Songjiang University Town officially started construction in 2001, up to RMB 5.33 billion investment and covered an area of about 533 hectares,which was fully completed in 2005. Songjiang University Town is a quite larger University town of China by far.At the same time,university’s construction promote the vigorous development of campus greening.However, these campus afforestation problems were more and more attention from the society.In this paper, the author took a comprehensive investigation of the street trees present situation of seven campuses in Shanghai Songjiang University Town and analyzed the application status of the campus street tree species by calculating the important value, Species richness, frequency of application, ratio of evergreen and deciduous trees. The author analyzed the adaptability of the existing tree species by investigating and gathering statistics on street tree health status. The author summarized application and maintenance management problems on trees of each campus, and puts forward countermeasures and suggestions to solve the problem.Meanwhile the author hopes to provide reference for the application and management of street trees in Shanghai and neighboring cities.There are totally 9910 strains in seven campuses of Shanghai Songjiang University Town, of which the largest number of Cinnamomum camphora,accounts for 63.51%, followed by a larger proportion of Platanus acerifolia, accounting for 18.79%, and the total number of the two species is 82.30%, other species only occupy 17.70%of the total.Street tree species richness of each campus in the survey is generally low. The number of four campus tree species is less than 4. About importance value and application of frequency,Cinnamomum camphora and Platanus acerifolia occupy an important position absolutely. The important value of Cinnamomum camphora is as high as 145.12. It’s use frequency is 100%.Among of them, the important value of Platanus acerifolia is 57.04. It’s use frequency is 71.43%. The important value of other species is low.Cinnamomum camphora or Platanus acerifolia were selected as the main street trees in seven campuses,the resulted in ratio of evergreen and deciduous trees going to two extremes. The proportion of tree species is imbalance. However, the performance of health is relatively good. The number of health level1 and level 2 was the largest, a total of 9074 strains,accounting for 91.56%.According to the results of this investigation, the author found that exsiting problems on the street trees of the seven campuses as followed.Tree species composition is not reasonable,and rich, so that the road landscape is single and lack of changes.Cinnamomum camphora and Platanus acerifolia as street trees were too obvious; Growing species have not been used sufficiently. It has not considered the long-term development of street trees, and lack of maintenance and management of street trees.In view of the above problems, the author proposes the following countermeasures and suggestions: Paying attention to the design of campus street trees, according to the landscape, function, and cultural needs.Strengthening the promotion of high quality species,based on the existing tree species,and increase plant species which adapt to the road environmental conditions; Improving the construction and maintenancelevel, and managing campus trees resources prepensely, purposefully and reasonably.
