Majingao Hydropower Station suffered serious floods in 2007, and it was badly damaged. The stability of arch dam need to be rechecked, then there would be dam reinforcement. On the basis of prophase investigation, the paper conducts supplementary investigation and investigates the present situation of arch dam. Then the paper uses the conventional method and the finite element method respectively to recheck the stability and stress of the arch dam. Finally put forward reinforcement measures according to the supplementary investigation and recheck results, and improve the dam safety monitoring system. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) Supplementary investigation and the present situation investigation of arch dam. On the basis of prophase investigation, the paper conducts supplementary investigation which includes landform, stratum lithology, geological structure and weak structure surface, hydrogeology, harmful physical geology, rock mass weathering characteristics, dam foundation and arch dam abutment rock mass quality features, spandrel resistance rock mass quality features, etc. In addition, the paper investigates the present situation of arch dam.(2) Recheck the stability and stress of the arch dam by use of the conventional method. Use“ Arch Dam Analysis and Optimization Software System”( ADAO) compiled by Zhejiang University Hydraulic Institute to recheck dam body stress, then use three dimensional rigid body limit equilibrium method to calculate and recheck the stability of dam abutment.(3) Recheck the stability and stress of the arch dam by use of the finite element method. The paper establishes finite element model according to rhe arch dam situation, then uses ANSYS to calculate and analyze the dam stress, dam displacement and the stess of dam abutment and dam foundation, finally recheck the stress and stability of the arch dam through comparing the ANSYS calculation results with the ADAO software calculation results.(4) Put forward reinforcement measures according to the supplementary investigation, the present situation investigation and recheck results of arch dam, and improve the dam safety monitoring system.
