In this paper, a study on desert ecological protection technology for highway application relying on "YingShuang Highway" is carried out, the main research work as follows:(1) A survey of typical desert highway in Gansu province, mainly including sand-fixing measures(mechanical sand-fixation, plant sand-fixation), the efficiency of wind prevention and sand resistance measures, and highway protection, sums up the suitable growth plant species depending on projects(2) By installing the sand collector, wind profilers, wind-sand detecting instrument and small gradients weather station equipment, different types of ground wind index, sand flow characteristics of structures and mechanical components near the projects can be tested.(3) Projection photography method is used to determinate the coverage degree and biomass of vegetation. According to the principle and index of classification of site quality, the desert roads site of "YingShuang Highway" can be divided into four categories, respectively, as a class I site(basically no wind-sand hazard), class II site(wind-sand hazard weaker), class III(wind-sand hazard strong) and class IV site(wind-sand hazard very strong)(4)According to sand-fixation theory and plant sand-fixation principle of desert engineering, we can choose the suitable plants for windbreak and sand fixation, such as Hedysarum Scoparium and Chinese Tamarisk, and design atypical slope protection of the desert section in "YingShuang Highway". Considering the construction condition, economic benefit, survival rate of plants, landscape beautiful degree, coordination and other factors, the article puts forward the optimized method of desert highway slope protection based on fuzzy mathematics.
