Along with the rapid development of our country railway industry, batches of high-power diesel locomotives should have been supplied the market urgently. GH80 A alloy is a typical difficult processing material, and there is few public cutting research data on diesel locomotive’s exhaust valve manufacturing in the domestic and overseas. Therefore, how to combine company’s reality to do the GH80 A material’s cutting performance study and improve existing cutting processing technology plays an important role in prolonging the service life of the tools, improving labor productivity by a large margin, reducing cost and labor intensity of operating workers, improving the precision and quality of the products, providing theoretical foundation and technical guidance on cutting processing for products’ trial production and mass production.Combining the condition of existing machine tools, tools and analysis instruments, this paper mainly expounds below:1. Briefly explains the key components of GEVO16 diesel engine----the progress on trial production of exhaust valve, and makes the reasonable choice of cutting processing current situation and its technology solutions for nickel-base superalloy material difficult to machine.2. Integrating theory with practice, analyses the performance characteristics of difficult processing GH80 A material, and performs the cutting processing studies of exhaust valve. From the angle of engineering application, optimizing selection of turning tools and cutting parameters is made.3. Process capability evaluation: through the optimizing selected turning tools and cutting parameters, makes the cutting tests. Analyses product quality characteristics and evaluates cutting process capability by means of statistical analysis method.4. Tool life’s evaluation and tool wear’s analysis: through the wear experiments of tool, studies the form and mechanism of tool wear and tool breakage during the process of GH80 A material machining, measures tool cutting performance, promotes tool’s rational application.5. Cutting deformation analysis: in the process of trials, collects the cuttings of typical machining process and observes its shape and organization, then judges cutting machining parameters’ rationality.6. According to the trial results, through the combination with actual production, analyses and improves tools and cutting parameters to try to find the better processing technologies and cutting tools, improves cutting technology of exhaust valve.
