Organic solar cells with the advantages of simple process, low cost, light weight, good processing performance have become an essential part in energy field. This paper mainly introduces the current research information and the future research direct of dye sensitized solar cells and organic polymer solar cells. 11 new D-A conjugated polymers and 4 new D-π-A dye sensitizers were designed and synthesized. The related performance of materials were studied.First, a series of new random D-A terpolymers based on the indole and benzothiadiazole cores by different ratio(respectively 5:1, 3:1, 1:1, 1:3, 1:5) in conjugation with benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene unit were designed and synthesized. Then the polymers was studied by UV visible absorption, fluorescence spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry test, GPC, and TGA. The results indicate that these polymerys show good thermal stability, and with the increase of the proportion of benzothiadiazole, the UV absorption spectra of polymers exhibit red-shift trend.Second, two type conjugated polymers based on benzothiadiazole were designed and synthesized by a Stille cross-coupling reaction. The difference between the two type polymers is that the one was grafted with F atom, and the other was grafted with none. The two different type polymers were synthesized to compare the property between the none F polymers and F-polymers. The tests show that F atom will promote the red-shift in visible region and effectively reduce the Stokes displacement of polymers.Third, four new organic sensitizers containing an indole unit as electron donor, cyanoacetic acid or rhodanine-3-acetic acid as electron acceptor bridged by thiophene or 2-thiopheneacetonitrile unit. The UV visible absorption spectra of the synthesised four sensitizers locate between 300- 500 nm, meeting the basic conditions of dye sensitized solar cells. And cyclic voltammetry tests proved its cyclic redox properties.
