The target of establishing health monitoring Benchmark structure is to assess the applicability and reliability of health monitoring methods. It aims to establish an exchange dialogue tool for researchers and engineers, and provides a unified and standard research platform for different research methods to analysis, compare and assess. So, it can narrow the gap between theory research and actual application, and promote the application of health monitoring technology in actual engineering structure widely, then realize long-term, continuous, stabilize and reliable structural health monitoring eventually. The damage identification research based on Benchmark structure can reflect the real damage of actual engineering structure and contribute to further study.In the dynamic response test, the acceleration response signal has advantages of acquisition convenient, high accuracy and the technology is relatively mature, so it is hard to lost damage information by using acceleration response signal as the signature of damage identification directly. Therefore, it is necessary to research a damage identification method based on acceleration response directly.The author uses the maximum change ratio of acceleration power spectrum as damage location indicator, two damage types for damage identification of IABMAS BHM Benchmark structure is the connection damage of primary and secondary beam, and the connection damage of main beam and pier. The test result shows that the maximum change ratio of acceleration power spectrum can identify the damage and damage location of the bridge health monitoring Benchmark structure accurately. Meanwhile, this paper uses the maximum curvature difference of frequency response function as damage location indicator, the damage type for damage identification of IASC-ASCE SHM Benchmark structure is the removal of layer brace. The test result shows that the maximum curvature difference of frequency response function can identify the damage and damage location of the structural health monitoring Benchmark structure accurately.For this two typical Benchmark structures, this paper proposes an assessment method of structural overall damage level by using the acceleration power spectrum and frequency response function with the Mahalanobis distance. It can be seen from the damage analysis of two Benchmark structures with different damage types and levels, the structural damage distance increases with the level of overall damage. The test result shows that the assessment method of structural overall damage level is feasible and effective, and the principal component assurance criteria is good for structural damage alarming.This paper uses the tests and numerical simulation models of two typical Benchmark structures for studying on damage location and overall damage level assessment based on acceleration response. The identification result is ideal, it verifies the damage identification method is feasible and effective.
