With the rapid development of China’s economy, the urban heat island effect caused by the urbanization is becoming more and more outstanding. It is urgent to improve the urban environment as well as indoor and outdoor thermal environment of buildings using green building technology. Container construction combined with vertical greening emerges gradually in people’s vision as a low carbon green building technology. Compared with the technology of roof greening which is widely studied and applied, research on the mechanism of the effect of vertical greening on thermal environment of buildings is relatively less and shallow. Quantitative experimental study on the wall vertical greening of container construction is hardly ever seen.Based on the recent development of wall vertical greening and the container house in Shenzhen, this thesis combines two types of green building technology, i.e., wall vertical greening and container house. In order to explore the effect of wall vertical greening on the thermal environment of container construction, we do the contrast experiments in two rooms: one is a normal container house without any vertical greening and another is a container house with wall vertical greening. This thesis aims to promote the implementation of wall vertical greening in Shenzhen. The main research contents and results are as follows:We summarize domestic and foreign cases on the improvement of building thermal environment using wall vertical greening technology, and analyze the principle that how wall vertical greening affects the thermal environment of the building.We select the transformation of the containers construction in Shenzhen International Low Carbon City as the experimental platform, and choose the new type wall hanging vertical greening product designed by Shenzhen Research Institute of Building Science as the research object. We design a contrast experiment to quantify the effects of wall vertical greening on thermal environment of the transformation of the housing container.We study the difference between the ordinary container house and the container house with wall vertical greening through the contrast experiment. The study is mainly on the effects of wall vertical greening on the outdoor thermal environment, wall insulation and indoor thermal environment.We further analyze the effect of wall vertical greening on the indoor thermal environment from four aspects, i.e., planting orientation, plant species, plant density and layout style, to provide the design strategies vertical greening on the wall.Finally we conclude the research that the wall vertical greening can improve the heat insulation of building wall, and improve the construction of indoor and outdoor thermal environment. The research shows that planting orientation, plant species, plant density and layout style of the wall vertical greening can be adopted in design to improve the building thermal environment. So the combination of wall vertical greening and container house is a kind of sustainable green building design method in Shenzhen area, which can improve the urban ecological environment and micro climate, and bring out great ecology and society benefits.
