The structure progressive collapse is usually caused by a chain reaction that local failure transmits to other parts of the structure, and makes the structure collapsed extensively witch is more disproportionate than the initial destruction. Although the probability of progressive collapse is low, the loss is extremely high. Almost 40 years have passed since the study of the structure progressive collapse was proposed, and some progress has been achieved all over the world. Some clause about resistance to progressive collapse can be found in codes of some developed countries. Moreover a specialized code of resistance to progressive collapse is enacted in America. While any specific methods or standards are not proposed in any related codes in China. In the previous studies, a planar model of a cross is used to study the progressive collapse for the reason that it is established more easily than a 3D model, and spare computing resource and time. However, the influence of floor slab to the structure in the resistance to continuity collapse is ignored which is a significant structure unit. As farther study is carrying through, the significant of the floor slab which can provide resistance to resist progressive collapse is realized. In recent years, 3D model is used by some researchers to study progressive collapse. Experiment especially concluded floor slab is less while numerical simulation is still common, as the experiment is expensive, difficult-to-operate and dangerous. In this case few test data can be used to verify the calculation mode. Therefore to fill the gap a experiment is carried out in this paper, and the main research content and significance is as follow.Firstly, a numerical model for the experiment is established which adopts method of nonlinear analysis in order to study associated effect between the floor slab and steel beam, the catenary action of the floor slab, the floor slab’s contribution to the robustness of steel frame structure, so that preparation is made for designing and realizing of the experiment.Secondly, the experiment about the resistance to progressive collapse on a steel frame structure which includes floor slab, beams, columns and the other major structure units, which help clarify the effect of the floor slab to resist progressive collapse in a steel frame.Thirdly, based on the experiment data and analysis result, suggestion is proposed to resist progressive collapse of the steel frame structure, and reduce the probability of the progressive collapse of steel frame, so that life and property can be protected.
