The increasing number of XLPE power cable applications in the power grid of the city because of the cable with transmission capacity, simple structure, easy installation and maintenance, etc. The cable insulation will be occur aging with the role of electrical, mechanical, thermal and other factors when the cable work,which affect the safe operation and service life of the cable. So far, the first operational cable nearly three decades of operating history.It is has great significance to master these aging and remaining life for the safety and stable operation of the grid.The experiments include destructive and non-destructive test currently about assessment )f the state of XLPE cable aging.The study found a lot of factors that impacting of aging of the cable,but each of these methods are only partially reflect the aging state of the cable. It is reflecting a more comprehensive cable aging and remaining life by studying the mechanism of various aging experiments to analyze the advantages and disadvantages and choose complementary solutions from destructive and non-destructive test experiment.The paper study the XLPE cable aging characteristics, factors and various aging test method, a XLPE cable operation and maintenance strategy,has put forward through developed a more comprehensive "three main Secondary" pilot program.and analysis of the experimental results.The comprehensive assessment of XLPE cable aging state and remaining life provide a scientific basis for years of the transformation XLPE cable.
