| As memorial activities are dependent on specific space, certain area has been provided for commemorative activities for human in memorial architecture and its outer space. Collective memory, mainstream values which are emphasized in traditional memorial architecture are contradicted against the consideration of individual emotion and daily life. The grand scale and solemn form of traditional memorial architecture is not suitable for people’s daily activities. Memorial space, however, as an important part of urban public space system, should establish multiple correlation and bond with the city and the public. It contributes to integrating memorial space into everyday life.Memorial space are required to meet various demands of people both in daily and specific memorial day. The purpose of this essay is to discuss the question that how could the exterior space of memorial architecture both meet the requirements of people’s daily life and express commemorative significance.Starting with the problem of the absent everydayness in the exterior space in memorial architecture, this paper which incorporated with domestic and overseas relevant theories and experiences analyzes the strategies of improving the everydayness of the exterior space of memorial architecture based on the elaboration of certain notion such as architectural outer space, everyday life and so on. This essay is to optimize the research of the exterior space of memorial architecture through practical case studies.The whole paper has been divided into five parts. Firstly, the research background and the topic of this essay are provided in the introduction. Secondly, relevant concepts are illustrated. Simultaneously, the values of the exterior space of memorial architecture in everyday life are stated in the second part of the paper. Thirdly, certain case studies are discussed to explain the reasons which influence the everydayness of the outer space of commemorative architecture. Furthermore, several strategies are presented to improve the everydayness of the exterior space of memorial architecture in the fourth part of the paper. Lastly, certain cognition of the extension of the memorial hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders the are elaborated. Research findings are summarized in this part. |
