With the rapid development of the global economy, the maritime traffic becoming busy, offshore platform’s number is increasing, and the ship collision accidents often happen and causing catastrophic result. The research work has been carried out in the field of ship collision, many scholars carried out a lot of study.Tubular structure has higher strength to weight ratios and energy sbsorption, it is a research direction that apply the tubular structure to the side structure to study its mechanical properties.This paper first summarized the current study of ship structural crashworthiness and tubular structures, proposed three tubular sandwich plates and analyzed the crashworthiness effect after sandwich plates structure parameters changed by using the nonlinear finite element software; Analyzed the single side structure collision resistance after used three kinds of sandwich plates; Designed out new stringer—tooth type girder structure,and applied to the double side structure, analyzed the structural changes of mechanical properties; Finally, applied tubular sandwich plate and tooth griders to the side structure to comprehensive assess its crashworthiness.The main research work and conclusions are as follows:(1) Summarize the development of side structure crashworthiness and tubular structure study, learning the basic nonlinear finite element theory, digestion and absorption the key technologies that used in ABAQUS dynamic response analysis.(2) Using the finite element software, establish the finite element model of sandwich plate. Discusses the design guidelines for sandwich panels modeling method, the mesh size and energy conservation, provide technical support for the further research.(3) Establish tube sandwich plate, oval tube sandwich plates and IO sandwich plate, by changing the thickness of sandwich plate panels, sandwich thickness and sandwich arrangement, analyze the energy absorption, impact force and specific energy variation. To provide reference for pipe sandwich plates used in shipboard structure.(4) The three kinds of sandwich plates used in the side structure to replace the old side structure; comparative analysis of the four side structure anti-impact performance. Study shows that: Under the premise of roughly equal quality, three new side structure could be better resist impact load, crashworthiness performance increased significantly; the IO sandwich plate is more better.(5) With the idea of increase the range of structures involved to deformation, this article design out tooth girder and applied to the side structure, and simulated the impact process happened on the three typical positions. The 1, 2 position in the structure have better crashworthiness, but 3 position has not changed significantly.(6) This article replaced the outer shell with tube sandwich upon the tooth type girder structure side structure, which makes the side structure absorb more energy. The conclusion can be drawn that the new structure could be better protection of the ship’s structure.
