With a large number of road reconstructions and especially the freeway reconstructions, the problems that the new and existing roadbed unevenly settling, roadbed stability, bridge bump and the stability of bridge abutment during the embankment damming need to solved eagerly. So a new lightweight roadbed backfill material which is named liquid fly ash emerge is used to solve above problems. In this paper, it is using a system analysis on the rules of the stress and strain when using liquid fly ash in subgrade widening in the lab experiments and using ANSYS simulation analysis, and also having a study on vehicle bumping at bridge head and abutment stability in the case of the embankment filling. After then the paper puts forward the optimization of design scheme for practical engineering, and takes a monitoring and verification at the same time. The results prove that: the liquid fly ash can reduce the uneven settlement in new and existing roadbed in subgrade widening, which can also increase the overall stability of the road. Using the liquid fly ash in the embankment filling can ease the problem of the vehicle bumping at bridge head well, to improve the overall stability of abutment. To sum up, the application of liquid fly ash can solve a series of problems of subgrade widening in the reconstruction of freeway and the embankment filling. It is an ideal material for embankment filling.
