As a new type of pulsed power supply, the compensated pulsed alternator(CPA) system combines all the functions of inertia energy storage and pulse power shaping in one machine which has the advantages of huge energy storage and small system. These integrating advantages make it the preferred power supply system suitable for electromagnetic launching weapo system. Study on the permanent passive CPA is very less at present, especially on the discharge basic theory. This paper introduces the essential principle, establish the simulation model of electromagnetic Rail-gun driven by CPA, research on the discharge wave and current shape conditioning method, and make the testify experimentation based on permanent passive CPA at last.This paper puts forward a mathematical method which could analyze the discharge of CPA more exact based on the fundamental theory of permanent passive CPA. Three measures about reducing inductance the mathematical method to calculate the inductance of CPA have been presented based on the basic electromechanical theory.Based on the function equation of discharge current by CPA and the working theory of electromagnetic rail-gun, this paper establish the simulation model of the system.The effects of CPA voltage, width of pulse and trigger angle to armature current and velocity of the projectile have been study with the numerical methods. The properties of CPA driving load have been acquired.The effect factor to the current discharge by permanent passive CPA have been research by harmonic method. According to the air gap flux density of permanent magnetic motor, this paper presents the Fourier series of air gap flux and attains harmonic function equation of discharge current of CPA. Then the effects of time constant, rotate speed and trigger angle to the discharge current waveform have been analyzed. Three different pulse shape conditioning methods: changing the trigger angle, two phases in series or parallel connection, adding Inductance and Resistance have been analyzed with finite element analysis method. The results indicate that CPA could output multiplicity pulse current shape agile by shape conditioning methods, makes it satisfy requirement of different load, this establish theory foundation of the optimization and factual use of CPA.The discharge experiment of a two-phase four-pole permanent passive CPA has been taken from three types: discharge on a phase, discharge on two phase parallel connection, discharge on two phase in series. The results show good agreement between the prediction current from analytical method and finite element analysis with experiment current in the discharge experiment on a phase. The results of experiment on two phase parallel connection and two phase in series validate the characteristic of shape conditioning methods which prove that the analytical method and electromagnetic designing method is feasible and correct.The entire analysis methods and research process mentioned in this study can be further used for discharge current of permanent passive CPA. It also could provide theoretical and experimental guides for the optimization and discharge experiment of CPA. This has important meaning to the research on the electromagnetic launching weapon system driven by CPA.
