Research On Youth Hostel Design Based On The Renovation Of Old Buildings

The youth hostel is a new type building for self-service tourists offering place for accommodation, communication and sharing. Nowadays, travelling has been various in forms transferring gradually from traditional cite seeing style to self-serve relaxing, being close to the nature and learning the culture. Under this circumstances, the youth hostel developed rapidly in China. By the way of teaching with fun, the youth hostel to some extent encourages young people to love the nature, talk to each other and pursue simple living style from their trip experience. In China, due to its freshness, most of the youth hostel would be probably transformed from some old buildings. At the same time, because of lacking relevant theoretical supporting the systematic research in transforming the old buildings to youth hostel in the function design to the form design is supposed to have important practical significance.In this thesis work, based on those youth hostels transformed from old buildings, from the basic concept of youth hostel, study has been carried out on the essential characters of youth hostel and old building transforming followed by deeply study the potential links between them. The feasibility of the transforming has been discussed as well. And based on the study and discussion, some basic design principles will be presented and discussed from the view of function design and form design. First, from the function design view, draw a brief conclusio n of the functional components. Through regulating the layout of the old buildings, switching the function and recombination of the streamline of the buildings, achieves the goal of self-updating. Respecting the original style of the old buildings, carry out these proper and case specific switching to match the functional requirements of the youth hostels. Then, from the form design view, study those youth hostels transferred from old buildings from volumetric optimizing, reappearance of the interface expression and updating of structure technology and analysis the specific reforming methods. Based on the commercial feature, fully discuss the reforming system from volumetric adjustment to color texture and to energy saving.At the same time, by searching the references, site survey and summarizing, exposit and study the design principle of switching the old buildings to youth hostels from the view of architecture. And by studying the practical cases, obtain the strategy and technique and seeking for the methods and measures to reforming the old buildings which in expect to offer some new ideas for the reforming.
