In order to ensure the ride comfort of the vehicle, the spring stiffness of the suspension is usually very low. This lead to low roll stiffness of the spring. The body of the car will roll when the car drives on the uneven road. The body roll angle of the car is too large because of the low roll stiffness of the spring. This make drivers and passengers fell insecure and sometimes can cause rollover accident. The anti roll bar is a product of this contradiction between the low roll stiffness of the suspension and irreconcilable stability of the vehicle.Most of the cars are installed with anti roll bars, this is a positive effect to reduce body roll angle of the vehicle. However, with the increasing complexity of road traffic and speed, the anti roll bar has been gradually unable to meet the roll stability and safety requirements because it can’t adjust its roll stiffness so as to adapt to the requirements of the road.This paper will take the Nissan SUV vehicle as an example, it parametric the anti roll bar and calculate its roll stiffness by Moire method. Besides, we may carry on the stress analysis to determine its dangerous section and check the strength. Finally, carry on an optimization design.This article put forward a set of motor drive system of the active anti roll bar and establish mathematical model according to the system. We research the effect of active anti roll bar for handling and stability of the vehicle. PID control strategy is carried out for this system.Besides,This paper establish a vehicle multi-body dynamics model in ADAMS/Car due to the full vehicle simulation experiment. The vehicle dynamic models include active anti roll bar and anti roll bar. Then the vehicle dynamic model included active anti roll bar will be introduced into Simulink so as to make a co simulation analysis. Full vehicle simulation of two different roll stiffness of anti roll bar will carry on ADAMS/Car. The simulation test include steering wheel angle step input test, steady static circular test, ISO-lane-change test. Finally, the full vehicle test for two different roll stiffness of anti roll bar carry on the vehicle test field to verify the optimization design and the simulation model.Experiments show that the simulation and experimental results are in good agreement if the error is in a smaller range. This indicates that the model is accurate.Research of the article shows that the anti roll bar with the bigger roll stiffness can reduce body roll angle of the vehicle under the same conditions. This shows that the optimization design is feasible. The results also shows that the maximum value of the index value of the roll stability on the active anti roll bar are lower than that on the anti roll bar. This indicates that the active anti roll bar can greatly improve the roll stability of the vehicle.
