In recent years, due to the increase of the number of the vehicle and the slow construction of traffic facilities, traffic safety and congestion problems increase prominently. As an important part of intelligent transportation, vehicular ad hoc network(VANET) has got more and more attention. VANET creatively apply the ad-hoc network technology to the communication of vehicles, so the drivers can acquire the information of other vehicles and the real-time traffic information within the scope of the over-the-horizon。VANET has played a huge role in many aspects, such as warning of the accident, traffic safety, and providing users with comfortable driving environment.This topic is based on VANET. Combining the collected real-time traffic information, real-time path planning system was been designed. It aimed to solve the problem of traffic congestion and provide the shortest-time driving routes for people. The process is shown as below:First of all, we collected the real-time traffic information of the sections in the transportation network based on VANET. If a vehicle was in VANET, its information such as latitude, longitude, speed, direction and vehicle status, etc., could be displayed in control center and vehicle terminal. After the data acquisition, we used the method of filtering and repair for data processing. The prediction of traffic condition could be used for data repair.Secondly, I constructed the path planning system based on VANET and real-time traffic information. I used the open source map Open Street Map as the map data of the path planning system. After downloading the map, the information about nodes and sections would be picked up. Setting the real-time weights of each section could reflect the accurate travel time of each section, which was convenient for searching the shortest-time path. Real-time traffic information was collected and updated constantly. In the process of driving, the system could also make guidance for drivers.Thirdly,I simulated and tested the real-time path planning system. The results of simulations and tests showed that the path planning system based on VANET and real-time traffic information can avoid the congestion and sudden accident, and provide a more efficient route for drivers, compared with static-weight path planning.
