Due to the advantages of small size, low noise, and high power density, the high speed permanent magnet synchronous motor(HSPMSM) has become a best choice in drive motor that is used in centrifugal compressor system and could meet the requirements of the centrifugal compressor system develop trend of miniaturization and high efficiency. It has been widely used in aerospace industry, but has less experience in ship applications. So it is of significance to research on HSPMSM to meet the shipboard conditions. In this thesis, the electromagnetic performances and mechanical behavior of PM rotor of the HSPMSM are thoroughly researched. The main contents are listed as follows:The first part mainly focuses on the influence of electromagnetic parameters on HSPMSM. Studies on the key parameters, such as no-load flux leakage factor, pole arc factor, no-load air gap flux density wave-shape, and d, q-axis armature reaction reactance, which affect the performance of HSPMSM. The influences of structure design parameters mentioned above are calculated and studied. A new method is proposed, which uses load magnetic field method to solve the d, q-axis armature reaction reactance of permanent magnet motor. This method can take into account the cross impact of d, q-axis magnetic field, and the result is accurate.The second part studies the torque ripple and rotor eddy current losses of HSPMSM. Firstly, the thesis analyses the mechanism of the electromagnetic torque ripple. From the view of electromagnetic design, the research shows that it is depended on reducing the cogging torque to weaken the torque ripple of the motor. Variety of measures are studied to weaken cogging torque using FEM. Secondly, the calculation methods of rotor eddy current losses of HSPMSM are researched, and the influence of the air gap length, pole arc factor, notch size and current wave-shape distortion rate on the rotor eddy current losses are studied.The third part bases on the design features of HSPMSM analyzed above, designs two 8200 rpm, 630 kW high performance HSPMSMs. The two prototypes are surface mounted rotor structure and interior type rotor structure respectively. It calculates the electromagnetic parameters, the magnetic field, the losses and the steady performance of the two motors by using FEM.The fourth part checks the mechanical behavior of the two prototypes when they are in high speed. Firstly, it calculates and analyzes the stress distribution under various operation conditions of the surface mounted type rotor structure of HSPMSM using the FEM and analytical method. Secondly, it analyzes the stress distribution of the interior type rotor structure of permanent magnet motor of the magnetic bridge using FEM. The results of the stress calculation of the two prototypes show the prototypes can meet the mechanical property requirements. Finally, the two motors are supported by the sliding bearing, to form a motor-generator. It calculates the rotor critical speeds and researches the unbalance response due to the unbalanced magnetic force.
