The Expression Of Thematic Space And The Extract Of Cultural Symbol

Thematic space is the space environment using certain culture meanings as the theme. By adding some symbolic elements in space and decoration design, to build up a culture-based atmosphere, meantime, it can also display the characteristic of the era and the place.In the beginging of the last century, the mordenism design style, which was derived from western country, emphasized on the function and kept minimalism as the principle, therefore, a new design style was formed which could be adoped to the modern indestrial and social development, also, it did enormous contribution to the recover of economy and development after war. With the trend of globalization on the world economy, the mordenism design style has been swept around the world,and become the international style which can influence the current living situation.The new age can inevitably nurture the new living concept. Today, the homogeneous and individual-lacking design environment produced by modernism is gradually disguesting. People begin to pursue some culture meanings, era features and regional features in design. More and more thematic space design which contains certain culture features begin to appear in the pubic environment, such as thematic exhibition, thematic amusement park, thematic restaurant, thematic teahouse, etc.This thesis come through plenty of research and analysis based on the real life situation, and combine the practical design experience in order to develop the systematic research toward the performance of thematic exhibition space and the renovation of the cultural symbol. Meantime, to acquire some theoretical cognition for the designwork afterwards.In my graduate study period, I have been luckily selected to paticipate in the“beautiful countryside” planning project, which is located in shamen town(taizhou city, yuhuan county, zhejiang province). With the procedure of the economicdevelopment in this town, the local fishery culture has been vanished gradually.However, these ecological features are the basic parts of the“anti-homogeneous”construction. Through the building of the fishery ecological museum under the local government’s support, we hope to develop and inherit the fishery culture constantly.In the shamen area “beautiful countryside” planning project, I have been taken responsible for the exhibition design of the “Eastern Zhejiang area Fishery Museum”.The essence of the exhibition design is to spread the culture. The seperated exhibition halls and different functional spaces can all be seen as space units to demonstrate culture meanings, then, all of them combine with each other to display the theme of the whole museum. From my perspective, how to refine the symbol of the ecological fishery in zhejiang area is the most important issue in this process.Through largely collecting information and finding symbolic images, we can build up an exhibition space which is full of local cultural meanings.Modern designers should focus on finding regional culture and feeling the customs when they begin their space designwork. How to accurately locate the design style of the space and demonstrate the unique characteristic is the crucial issue that modern designer should considerate.I hope to better improve the cultural atmosphere, develop more design style and fulfill the increasing mental needs of human beings by expressing thematic space and using the cultural symbols in designworks.
