With the improvement of human social economic level, people got sick and tired of regular structures. So more and more irregular structures emerge at time requires. However, irregular structures are always damaged by torsion effect under the action of strong earthquake. Therefore, it’s essential to control the torsion effect of irregular structures under the action of strong earthquake. With the improvement of technology of seismic energy dissipation, buckling-restrained brace attracts more attention of designers for its excellent property. Research on buckling-restrained brace is more about anti- seismic property in regular structures. Nevertheless, there’s rarely research on how buckling-restrained brace reduce seismic effect in irregular structures. Hence, it’s importance of studying how buckling-restrained brace reduce the torsion effect in irregular structures. In this paper, a 12-story bump and torsion irregular building is established by ETABS software. Buckling-restrained braces are decorated in different positions. Response spectrum analysis and time history analysis is proceeded based on modal analysis. Comparisons including period ratio, displacement ratio, story displacement, story drift and other time history curve concerned are made among various plans. Final conclusions show that the lateral stiffness and torsional stiffness of irregular structures can be improved effectively by decorating buckling-restrained brace. Besides, structures’ main body can be well protected by buckling-restrained brace. Meanwhile, adding buckling-restrained brace to irregular structures can lead irregular structures to more regularization. In addition, the arrangement of buckling-restrained brace should decrease the distance between stiffness center and mass center on the premise of basic principle of buckling-restrained brace.
