With the rapid development of China’s economy and the improvement of residents’ living conditions, people’s demands on the comfort and health of the home environment are becoming higher and higher. As a result, air conditioning has become one of common electrical appliances in the life. The air conditioning system is mainly composed of the indoor unit, outdoor unit and connecting pipeline. The role of pipeline is to connect the indoor unit and outdoor unit, as well as make the indoor and outdoor units into a closed system, so that the refrigerant can circulate through the system to realize heating and cooling. At present, most of the production process of connecting pipeline is accomplished by manual operation, which affect the overall economic benefits of the enterprises due to low production efficiency, high labor intensity and unstable production quality.In order to solve the problems of manual assembling such as slow assembly speed, low efficiency and poor quality, an automatic assembling equipment for connecting pipeline was researched and developed. Firstly, the working principle of the connecting pipeline assembling machine was introduced; the mechanical structures of the machine were designed based on the performance requirement, and the components were drawn using UG in detail. Then, the mechanical components were assembled to analyze whether they were reasonable. Secondly, on the basis of the overall structural design, the pneumatic system of the manipulator was designed, actuating pneumatic cylinders were selected through calculation, and the pneumatic system diagram and pneumatic control scheme was developed. Thirdly, the movements of the assembling machine were controlled by PLC. The PLC flow chart and the PLC input and output distribution table were obtained. In addition, a touch screen for man-machine conversation was used in the system, which was greatly convenient for the operator to monitor and control the device. Finally, the control ladder chart was completed with delta WPL Soft software according to the flow chart.The results showed that the installation and movements of the system can meet the requirements, and the working performance is stable. It verified the feasibility of the automation connecting pipeline assembling equipment, which provides a reliable support for the replacement of manual assembling by automatic equipment. This automatic system can improve the automation level of the assembling process of air conditioner connecting pipe, save labor and cost, improve the competitiveness of air conditioner manufacturer, which will have a broad market and application prospects.
