With the development of the national economy, the structure of energy is constantly turning stable, efficient and green. Pumped storage power station as a renewable energy have both flexibility and energy storage, the dynamic efficiency is significant, and so it developing very rapidly in recent years. In the process of design and construction of pumped storage power station, in order to keep the water conveyance systems from water hammer damage, we need analysis and calculation on hydraulic transients.Papers based on the project of hydraulic transient calculation of Huanggou pumped storage hydroplant, the purposes is checking the plant parameters of the preliminary design phase through calculated the hydraulic transients. First, using the method of characteristics establishment the mathematical model for calculation of water hammer, including pump-turbine, impedance surge Chamber and other boundary conditions. Using the Suter-form method to deal with the characteristic curve of the pump turbine; Secondly, processing the initial data of the Huanggou pumped storage hydroplant, including pipeline segments and nodes arranged, selected the operational situations of calculating; Then, using MATLAB calls the Fortran source code to carry out numerical calculations; Finally, choosing a reasonable closing law of guide vane by calculating, and giving the results of water conveyance system on large fluctuation transients.The final results of calculation verified the water conveyance system was rationality and reliability on the preliminary design phase. It makes the parameters within the allowed range, and ensures the safe and stable operation of the unit and the power station. Conclusions show that the Suter-form method is well used to deal with the comprehensive characteristic curve of the pump turbine, a linear closure rule can meet the actual needs of the pumped storage power station, and MATLAB can be used to calculate the large fluctuation transients.
