Currently, under the dual pressures of energy and environmental crisis, countries all over the world pay more and more attention to energy saving and environmental protection car. Therefore, new energy vehicles come into being. New energy bus also have been developed rapidly of that its annual sales breakthrough 6000, and become a new product that all bus companies racing to develop.However, the new energy buses are mostly built by changing the power system based on the original bus structure, whose design and layout advantages are wasted, and the excessive weight of the new energy sector makes new energy bus faced with big curb mass, short driving range and other issues. Therefore, lightweight design carrying out on the new energy bus structure is one of the most effective methods to resolve these issues.First, based on approaches of structural lightweight design, applying lightweight material and lightweight processing technology, lightweight technology path for new energy bus was analyzed from four aspects including body, chassis, power train and electric system, and lightweight methods and weight loss potential of each part were analyzed,as well as the lightweight potential for new energy bus with high-strength steel and aluminium body was analyzed theoretically in the condition of equivalent flexural rigidity and strength.Then, the finite element model of battery compartment for battery electric bus was established. Optimal stiffener layout of battery compartment structure was acquired by topography optimization method. The optimization results indicated that the mass of the optimized battery compartment was significantly reduced by 24.84 kg, with weight reduction of 65.84%, whilst its performance basically unchanged.Finally, based on lightweight approaches and path of new energy bus, new energy bus lightweight development process was explored, and the technical routes of new energy bus lightweight design and development was established.
