Pneumatic proportional control valve is the core control components of the vehicle auxiliary braking hydraulic retarder. It adjusts the brake torque of the retarder based on the control signal from the driver, and its performance has directly effect on the auxiliary braking result. This paper focuses on the structure design, optimization simulation and experimental test etc. to investigate the pneumatic proportional pressure valve. The main contents are as follows:The design objectives of pneumatic proportional control valve were established and Low-friction structure of valve that the corrugated pipe is the main sealing components was designed on the basis of the structure, working principle and the current research status; The key structure affected the pneumatic proportional control valve’s performance were analyzed.The model of corrugated pipe was established and simulated based on FEM tools; the special installation and test platform were built. The effective area of corrugated pipe was tested. The optimized mechanical model of corrugated pipe has been got by compare the data of simulation and test.The dynamic model of pneumatic proportional control valve were established, the results of simulation were analyzed under the platform of AMEsim. Multi-objective optimization design has been done with NLPQL algorithm in order to improve linearity, reduce hysteresis, accelerate response speed etc. Reset spring’s preload and stiffness, contact stiffness, friction, corrugated pipe’s stiffness etc. were all the parameters. Prototype machine has been made with the optimized parameters.The experiments were carried out to test the pneumatic proportional control valve, including linearity test, hysteresis test, response speed test etc., and the test results were analyzed. The performance comparisons between self-made valve and foreign similar products have been made.
