With the enlargement of power system, the ultra-high voltage transmission and large capacity power become a trend. It is particularly important for power system stability. The problems of low frequency in power system seriously affect the stability of the power system operation. As a part of the generator excitation system, the power system stabilizer(PSS) has a very good adjustment function to the low frequency oscillation. Now, aiming at the design of PSS, many advanced control algorithms are adopted such as the algorithm of fuzzy control, neural network and H∞. With the advantages of online rolling optimization and feedback correction, model prediction. Predictive control also widely used in the design of PSS. First of all, this paper improves the predictive control algorithm and proposes a predictive control algorithm based on particle swarm(PSO-IPC). Conventional predictive control algorithm usually keeps the value of objective function minimum to get the optimal solution. But it cannot guarantee that every step in the objective function prediction error reaches the minimum at the same time. In addition, the importance of the objective function is different for the error of predicted value in every step.Important objective errors are given greater weight while others are zero in order to reduce the computational burden, and improve the system response. In fact, it is to transform general predictive control rolling optimization solving into multi-objective optimal solution. In addition, it uses particle swarm optimization(PSO) to solve rolling optimization. Because PSO does not need the analytic expression, it has become an effective way of getting predictive control optimization solution. Secondly, this paper puts forward a improved predictive control based on particle swarm algorithm which is applied in the design of PSS controller and uses the single machine infinite system as system model in the case of the input mechanical power increased, under the condition of three phase short circuit. The simulation proves that the improved PSS controller can improve the stability and accuracy of the system. Finally, it makes the algorithm as hardware and designs a control chip based on FPGA. The chip can be used as a the host controller or coprocessor in power stability control system.Simulation and testability of printed circuit board show that the controller has stable operation, rapid respondence..The improved predictive control algorithm is applied to PSS and made into hardware from software algorithm. This paper provides a new thought for the future realization and application of advanced control algorithm in power system.
