Middle Route south-to-North water diversion that from Danjiangkou Reservoir to Tuanjiehu in Beijing and the Outer Estuary in Tianjin is a large-scale hydraulic engineering project witch total length is 1431.945 km, the project play a crucial role in remitting the water shortage in north part of China. There are still have some inconvenient factors such as safety accident will bring a lot of people’s property damage and threat to life, and the country’s economic development will be hindered, the disaster is very serious. Therefore, the safety monitoring of south-to-north water transfer project will plays an important role for the project. After have analyzed the application status and development trend of safety monitoring of hydraulic structures, the paper determined the important of the safety monitoring of middle route of south-to-North water diversionThe main content of this study has the following three aspects:1. Middle Route south-to-North water diversion that from the section of Zhanghe north to Gunyunhe south, the typical hydraulic structures such as channel, Qilihe inverted siphon, and Minghe aqueduct were analyzed, Monitoring indicators and accuracy requirements were promoted, and the monitoring instruments and embedding requirements were determined.2. In accordance with the requirement for buried, Monitoring instrument has been buried and a set of complete automation system has been established; Decorated monitoring instrument were automated and the artificial data have been collected according to the requirement of design.3. Detailed analysis and study was performed according to the monitoring design theory, the abject are collected data from the channel of section of Zhanghe north to Gunyunhe south, Qilihe inverted siphon, and three Minghe aqueduct hydraulic structures, to determine monitoring methods, equipment performance, and the hydraulic structures in the security and stability during the operation.
