Traumatic brain injury is the most common cause of death and disability in children. Survey showed that in 0-14 year-old children head injury, traffic accidents and falls are the major cause of brain injury in children. With the development of finite element techniques, finite element model has become an important tool for studying brain injury. Therefore, building a detailed six-year-old child head finite element model, using finite element simulation head injury, not only to get the cause of traumatic brain injury and the corresponding threshold and through brain tissue stress and strain can explore the child’s head injury mechanism. This study is based on the improved six-year-old child head finite element model with the detailed anatomy constructed. The model is based on the true child’s head CT scan datas, the establishment of hard tissues including the skull, cheek bone and soft tissue such as callosum, cerebral falx.In order to study the children head fall injury, this study depth analyzed brain injury mechanisms and tolerance limits of skull fracture in children, with reference to the cadaver test, through discussing child head finite element model fall impact simulation from different head impact positions and different head drop heights calculate the contact force and acceleration, and intracranial pressure, stress and strain conditions. The result showed that the maximum impact force and peak acceleration in the frontal impact when examining different head impact positions; the vertex directly impact easier leads to suture fracture, intracranial pressure is greater than the other three impact positions; when the drop height is greater than 120cm will cause skull fracture. In order to get a safe distance for the airbag, this study comprehensive analyzed the effect of different distance parameters between air-bag and child head on traumatic brain injury, through air-bag impact the finite element model of child head experiment. With the six-year-old child head finite element model, this study discussing brain injury mechanisms and tolerance limits of skull fracture by child head finite element model fall impact simulation, reduce the risk of head injury when children fall; analyzed the effect of different distance parameters between air-bag and child head on traumatic brain injury, through air-bag impact the finite element model of child head experiment. This study has important theoretical significance and academic value of biomechanical research, the results can be widely used in the prevention of brain injury, accident analysis, and children fall protection facilities development.
