21 century is the era of big data. With the data surges and the continuous development of the Internet and computer technology, big data has been infiltrated into the fields and industries of biology, physics, commerce, communication, military affairs and so on, also true in geotechnical engineering. Nanning has a huge amount of investigation data scattered in various regions of Nanning, and numerous prospecting units, involved in the construction, geology, railways, highways, water conservancy, electricity and mines and other industries. Because of the difference of engineering objects and codes, the division of engineering geological petrofabric is lacking of uniform standards. Therefore, the establishment and formation of large capacity database with unified engineering geological petrofabric division standards, Nanning city’s future urban planning, land utilization and remediation, geological disasters evaluation and prevention, underground space development and utilization, engineering construction site selection, foundation bearing stratum selection and foundation type determination and so on, is of great significance to Nanning city’s future urban planning, land utilization and remediation, geological disasters evaluation and prevention, underground space development and utilization, engineering construction site selection, foundation bearing stratum selection and foundation type determination and so on.So, this paper is based on the full collection of the geological map and the data of geotechnical engineering investigation of Nanning Basin, complete the engineering geological zoning of Nanning Basin and its digitization, establish the engineering geological petrofabric division standards, use the Nanning engineering geological information system, analyse the stratigraphic assemblage model of Nanning Basin, and study the engineering properties and bearing capacity of the rock-soil layer in each area, taking clay of each zone as an example, quantitatively study the correlation between physical and mechanical parameters of rock-soil, and establish the foundation bearing capacity empirical formula. Conclude the following:(1) According to the topography and landform, geological genesis and age, structure type and engineering geological properties of soil, Nanning Basin is divided into 5 regions,8 sub regions and 2 sections; (2) Establish the engineering geological petrofabric division standards; (3) Study on the engineering properties of the rock-soil layers of each zone of Nanning Basin, statistical analyse and compare the physicomechanical indexes of the rock-soil of each zone; (4) Concludes 9 kinds of the stratigraphic assemblage model of Nanning Basin; (5) Establish the geological database of Nanning City(Nanning engineering geological information system), to achieve data storage informationization, query convenience, collect real-time, shared universalization; (6) Study on the geotechnical engineering properties of each zone of Nanning Basin:(i) Establishe the correlativity among the SPT blow count, void ratio and liquid index of each zone clay; (ii) Establishe the correlativity between the SPT blow count and liquid index of each zone clay; (iii) Establishe the correlativity between the SPT blow count and state of each zone clay; (iv) Establishe the correlativity between the SPT blow count and compression modulus of each zone clay; (7) Study on the rock-soil layer bearing capacity of Nanning Basin.
